Global Service Learning

Unearth the World specializes in co-creating global service learning projects with universities and our international partners. Using our best-in-class global training curriculum, students experience transformative learning. We work with service departments study abroad offices, ASB programs, and more.

Credit Bearing Courses

We love working with faculty to plan immersive international projects that seamlessly integrate into their syllabus and allow students to receive credit!

EXAMPLE: Cornell University

Unearth the World (UTW) has partnered several times with the Cornell Commitment Office to plan week-long global service learning trips for 13 students. These trips allow Cornell students to visit and volunteer with UTW's Nicaraguan Sustainable Tourism partner.

These students focused on Spanish immersion, learning about environmental issues, engaging in meaningful service, and team building. UTW works with our international partner and Commitment's Assistant Director to create experiences that allows for mutual learning, growth and long-term partnership.

EXAMPLE: Providence College

Unearth the World (UTW) collaborated with the Feinstein Institute for Public Service to plan an immersive global service learning trip for 14 students in the spring of 2016. This trip complemented a Food Security & Local Agriculture course and students received academic credit.

Students visited Unearth the World's partner – a permaculture farm in Nicaragua - that focuses on food security.

UTW worked with our international partner, a Providence faculty member and a local organic farmer to craft a customized itinerary that combined hands-on service, cross-cultural exchange, and a variety of educational and culturally relevant workshops.

International Corporate Volunteering (ICV) - when planned carefully and ethically - can yield tremendous benefits for companies and employees. Unearth the World works with socially minded companies who want to offer employees an opportunity to volunteer their skills abroad while developing global leadership skills and forming lasting relationships.

How to Implement International Corporate Volunteering at your Organization

Unearth the World (UTW) worked with the digital marketing company, Centro, to plan a week long project that allowed employees to volunteer on a project of their choice, take daily Spanish lessons, see the beautiful country of Nicaragua, and build deeper relationships. As one participant put it: "We left as co-workers and came back as friends."

And to witness the fun for yourself, check out this short video from one of the trip participants:
