In 2017, Unearth the World began planning local Chicago volunteer opportunities to allow companies, students, families, and alums an opportunity to volunteer and learn in their own community. To give you a better idea of what this looks like, check out this short blog to read about a recent Chicago volunteer day involving global PR firm, MSL Chicago, and an awesome urban garden called OTIS Fresh Farm. We have loved pairing professionals and students with Chicago nonprofits to maximize impact and engage with our local community! Today, Unearth the World is thrilled to announce a new local partner – the Academy for Global Citizenship.

The Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC) is a public school on the southwest side of Chicago that serves a high-need population: 90% ethnic minorities, 70% low-income, 30% English Language Learner, and 15% Diverse Learners. Their innovative and holistic approach to education aims to foster systemic change and inspire the way society educates our future generations. AGC’s mission is to develop mindful leaders who take action both now and in the future to positively impact their communities and the world beyond.

In the past ten years, AGC has positively impacted over one million students around the world through sharing their work. In addition to providing an International Baccalaureate and dual language framework, AGC boasts a School Sustainability Handbook, a 100% organic and zero-waste cafeteria, environmental stewardship program, innovative wellness initiatives, and community empowerment units. Needless to say, we are thrilled to work alongside AGC to help them realize their vision to ignite a movement to create a better world through transforming educational systems.

Unearth the World will be working with AGC in several ways. In addition to planning global service programs for their seventh and eighth grade class, UTW will pair AGC with corporate and individual volunteers. Volunteer opportunities with AGC can include engaging in side-by-side service with AGC students on their school garden, creating after school education programs, making donations, becoming a part of the board or sponsoring students to volunteer abroad. Unearth the World loves the work that AGC is doing locally and globally and we are so excited to see this partnership grow.

If you or your company is interested in learning more about volunteering with the Academy of Global Citizenship, reach out to Kathryn at Unearth the World. We look forward to planning a customized volunteer program to benefit AGC and their tremendous students.
