This is a story we are so proud to share. This story is about a family who spent a week volunteering in Nicaragua but whose lasting impact can be found with the work they continue to do in Chicago.
In July 2015, Amy – the Managing Director of MSL Chicago and mother of three – traveled to Nicaragua with her young daughters – Chloe and Sadie – through Unearth the World. The trio volunteered with Unearth the World’s Nicaraguan partner, immersed themselves in the Spanish language and spent time at local schools. Chloe and Sadie even got to know Nicaraguan children of the same age. It was a transformative experience for all.
As part of Unearth the World’s post-trip support program, Amy expressed interest in getting more involved with our work upon her return. Her global service trip not only inspired her to become a member of UTW’s Advisory Board but it also propelled her (and her girls) to get involved in their own city and do some Chicago volunteering. The girls had worked on an organic farm in Nicaragua and were interested in learning about sustainable agriculture in their own community.
